Since 1996 the IESCT has deployed an intense conceptual production, empirical research and Science and Technology policy inputs. The following themes and research lines were addressed:

  • Policy analysis on Science, Technology and Innovation (policy setting, design, implementation and evaluation, strategies and related policies, actor’s practices)
  • Science and Technology indicators (for Argentina and Latin America)
  • Economics of technological change and local innovation dynamics (sectoral and case studies)
  • Indicators of innovation (Bogotá Manual, National Survey of Innovation and Technological Behavior-INDEC)

Throughout its history, the IESCT has participated in diverse extension activities. Among them, the institute has been part of the National Week of Science and Technology (organized by the SECyT –from 2007 onwards), the National Science Film Festival – CINECIEN and the university research and outreach project extension “The science as a teaching resource” (CIC-2009).

Since 2011 the IESCT carries out the project “Strengthening the Argentinean Network of Technologies for Social Inclusion” (Red de Tecnologías para la Inclusión Social Argentina - RedTISA) in the frame of the CREES-ICOTEA outreach program. The RedTISA aims to organize, coordinate and integrate a set of institutions and public and private organizations (universities, NGOs, labor cooperatives, research and development centers, etc.) in order to contribute to the country’s sustainable development through communication activities, capacity building and promoting the dissemination and reapplication of Technologies for Social Inclusion (TSI).

The commitment of the IESCT on training human resources has been undertaken through three main activities:

Master of Science, Technology and Society (STS):

The Master of STS, founded in 1995, is one of the first and most prestigious postgraduate programs in the region on STS studies. In 1999 the master became the first postgraduate course delivered in a virtual modality.
So far, the Master of Science, Technology and Society has formed over 40 students, thus occupying a central place in the formation of qualified human resources in the STS field in the regional level.

The IESCT has a sound experience in advising and consulting different agencies, both public and private as well as from the third sector, at national and regional level.

The priority is to assist R&D institutions and government agencies by expanding strategic design and implementation capabilities for Science and Technology (S&T) policies. The IESCT develops advisory, consulting, technical assistance and capacity building activities at regional, national, provincial, and municipal levels, as well as on public R&D units.

IESCT members have participated on the organization of several national and international scientific meetings.

Among the over 25 organized meetings, may be mentioned:
